Mucho pollo!!

Hola todos. We started off today with a tour of Chanchilla cemetery, which is just outside of Nazca. Unfortunately, after Speaking to my dad when we woke up this morning, we were hoping for an Indiana Jones style cemetery, minus the little men firing the poison darts. Unfortunately, what we found was a wide open desert, with tombs exposed that were buried under ground. Although the first couple of tombs were interesting, after 12, we were all quite bored! After the cemetery tour we were taken to a mining and ancient pottery demonstration, both of which were interesting. After we got back to the hotel, and with most of our tour group taking part in a flight over the Nazca dessert (we had decided that once you saw a few, you had seen them all), we walked to Nazca's plaza major, then to a grocery store to buy supplies for our bus trip, more on that later. We got a bit of the hunger grumps waiting for the group to arrive back, but when they did, we went to a restaurant nearby and had a local speciality: a quarter chicken, with chips and salad! Although I would have loved the salad, our tour leader made us take the cooked salad instead, fearing that our weak western stomachs couldn't handle the cold salads, which are washed in local water. It was a HUGE lunch as usual, but very very nice. We also got to try a local drink, whose name escapes me by is made up of a red corn juice mixed with pineapple and other things. It was ok, but wouldn't have it again. After lunch we boarded a bus to Alequipa, our first stop in the highlands of Peru and therefore the first stop at a higher altitude (2500m). This bus is amazing, in that it has fully reclinable chairs, including foot rests, movies playing non stop (some in English, some with English subs), and get this, free wifi(hence being able to blog right now). How wifi on a bus works, I don't know, but am loving it. We boarded at 245pm our time and are expected to make it to Alequipa (will have to check the spelling because I'm not sure) at midnight! It's been a long ride, but we have slept for most of it! Looking forward to getting my alpaca jumper! I will write soon! Hasta pronto.
